Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUD) Corrections Contract
Job Description
WSi Healthcare Personnel is seeking a qualified Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor to work on contract with the Colorado Department of Corrections (CDOC).
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced addiction professional who wants to make a meaningful difference by providing substance use and behavioral health services to an incarcerated population.

- Elevated Pay Rate

What You'll Do:
In this role, you will provide direct substance use disorder and behavioral health services to individuals within a correctional setting. Responsibilities may include:
- Conduct substance use and behavioral health assessments and evaluations.
- Provide individual, group, and brief therapeutic interventions.
- Deliver treatment for substance use and co-occurring disorders as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team.
- Develop and support individualized treatment plans.
- Monitor client progress and maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation.
- Provide counseling, education, and behavioral health guidance to individuals in custody.
- Assist with crisis intervention and behavioral health concerns.
- Collaborate with mental health professionals, correctional staff, and other members of the treatment team.
- Provide clinical recommendations and consultation regarding treatment and behavioral health needs.
- Coordinate referrals and continuity of care when individuals transfer between facilities or transition to outside services.
- Maintain appropriate clinical records and documentation in accordance with applicable standards.
- Work within established professional, clinical, safety, and correctional policies and procedures.
- Maintain awareness of safety and security requirements while providing clinical services in a correctional environment.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with varying levels of engagement in treatment. The position requires professionalism, sound judgment, emotional stability, and the ability to remain effective in a structured and sometimes high-stress environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must have LAC, or a CAS, and LCSW, LPC, LMFT, or Licensed Psychologist.
- If a candidate only has a Master's Degree, they must be a Licensed Addiction Counselor.
Ideal Candidate:
CDOC experience is not required, but the following background would be highly desirable:
- Experience providing addiction treatment in a correctional or justice-involved setting.
- Experience working with individuals who may be resistant or difficult to engage in treatment.
- Experience completing substance use assessments.
- Experience providing addiction counseling in inpatient or outpatient environments.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary behavioral health team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organization and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently while also collaborating with facility staff and other healthcare professionals.

Job Requirements
Because this position is located within a CDOC facility, candidates must be able to meet the applicable security, background, training, and facility requirements associated with working in a correctional environment.
Candidates should be prepared for a structured setting that involves security procedures, interaction with individuals exhibiting a wide range of behaviors, and potentially stressful situations. The CDOC requirements include successful completion of required background screening and other pre-assignment requirements.
- Must be able to pass a full background check, drug screen, TRAILS, CAPS, and fingerprinting.
- Ability to pass hands on Defensive Tactics Training
- Must have a driver’s license
- Must have one of the following Colorado State issued licenses: LAC, or CAS and LPC, LCSW, LMFT, or Psychologist license.
- Must have a current AHA BLS card
- Must have current TB test
