Medical Support Specialist (CMA)
Job Description
The Medical Support Specialist supports an Outpatient Psychiatric Services Team by assisting physicians, nurses, and clinical leadership in delivering high-quality patient care. This role involves patient intake, clinical support, scheduling, and care coordination to ensure smooth clinic operations and optimal access to services.
Key Responsibilities

Conduct initial patient assessments, including vital signs, interviews, and documentation.

Prepare and maintain patient rooms following infection prevention standards.

Facilitate in-person and telehealth psychiatric visits, including technology setup and basic troubleshooting.

Support providers by managing schedules, backfilling appointments, and confirming referrals.

Perform phlebotomy, administer medication injections, and conduct CLIA-waived testing (as permitted).

Review charts and lab results to ensure all documentation is complete before appointments.

Process medication prior authorizations and maintain accurate patient records in the electronic health record (EHR).

Coordinate and follow up on referrals and ensure required assessments are completed.

Maintain clinical supplies and ensure expired items are removed.

Communicate professionally with patients, providers, and partner organizations.

Job Requirements
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED required.

Graduation from a Medical Assistant Program (within the last 5 years) or relevant clinical experience; national certification (RMA or CMA) preferred.

Experience in phlebotomy, medication administration, and CLIA-waived testing preferred.
